In the first weekend of October 2015 the community of Maasmechelen in Belgian Lim-burg welcomes a number of inland and for-eign amateur choirs during its International Choir Contest of Flanders-Maasmechelen. This biennial event is meant for mixed voice choirs and equal voice choirs and it is at the same time the biggest in its kind in Belgium.
The twelve selected choirs will perform twice in the Cultuurcentrum with varied programmes. For the 13th edition of the competition the composer Peter Pieters wrote the compulsory works. The international jury under the presi-dency of Ludo Claesen will select three win-ning choirs per category. The participating choirs will close the competition with a short performance during the festive prize-giving ceremony. The Choir Contest of Maasmechelen is to-gether with similar contests in Arezzo, Cork, Marktoberdorg, Debrecen, Tours, Tolosa and Maribor one of the most outstanding choir competitions in Europe.
International Choir Contest of Flanders-Maasmechelen from 2 till 5 October 2015. The applications must arrive at the secretariat before 10 January 2015.
